Many people are fearful or nervous about going to the dentist due to a past bad experience, because of this, their oral health suffered and probably led to even more pain. The good news is that there’s now sedation dentistry. Some dentists call this type of dentistry sleep dentistry, but the patient can be awake throughout the procedure. At Carrum Downs Dental Care we use nitrous Oxide sedation to make your procedure as comfortable as possible.
One of the components of sedation dentistry is nitrous oxide, whose other name is laughing gas. It has this name since it makes the patient a bit giddy when they inhale it.
Nitrous oxide helps you to feel at ease during your dental procedure and is a much safer and easier option than a general anesthetic. A benefit to nitrous oxide is that a patient is able to drive themselves home after their treatment. A small mask is placed over your nose throughout the procedure to inhale the sedative and at the completion of the procedure oxygen is administered to remove all traces of the sedative from your system.
